Advocating for Florida’s Historic Places

Melissa Wyllie, CEO & President of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, and Mike Cosden, Board President of the Florida Trust, will discuss the organization’s advocacy priorities and strategies for the 2024 legislative session, which will be kicking off just days before the Art Deco Weekend begins (January 9).

The Florida Trust is Florida’s statewide nonprofit committed to protecting our state’s history and heritage. This session will also discuss how communities and organizations can help have their voices be heard at both the state and federal level, as well as outreach strategies for collaborating with other organizations to have your voices be heard by lawmakers. Finally, we will introduce the Florida Historic Tax Credit legislation working to be passed during the legislative session this year, how it can help protect Florida’s historic places.
