Friday
The Cab Calloway Orchestra comes directly out of the Louis Armstrong New Orleans Dixieland tradition.
Friday, January 13th, join us for our members only/VIP Opening Night Soirée with The Cab Calloway Orchestra from 8-10 pm.
This marks the return of the jazz icon’s band, now directed by Cab’s first-born grandson, “The Prince of Hi De Ho,” C. Calloway Brooks.
An Art Deco legend and star during the golden age of radio in the 1930s and 1940s, Calloway and his Orchestras came to define the hot swing sound and the jump genre of the era. Their progressive approach to performance, which took clubs like the Cotton Club and Savoy Ballroom by storm during the Harlem Renaissance.
Dress dapper and enjoy swing dance performances, mini dance lessons, and more! This will be a high-energy, joyous, and soulful performance ignited with audience participation.

Saturday, January 14
You can also catch the Cab Calloway Orchestra on Saturday, Jan 14th.
Carrying on the tradition of American big band music, The Cab Calloway Orchestra’s goal under C. Calloway Brooks is to expand the recognition and appreciation of its unique sound and sensibility while maintaining the integrity of Cab’s amazing musical repertoire.
That same day, enjoy authentic traditional New Orleans Dixieland jazz from Julio Montalvo’s Fabulous Dixie Kings with guest vocalist Shira Lee.
Led by Latin Grammy winner and trombonist Julio Montalvo, their toe-tapping, swinging, and infectious music will create the perfect fun, upbeat atmosphere.
They will be accompanied by Shira Lee, one of Florida’s great jazz and country singers. In her voice the classics of the swing era come to life and transport you to the golden age of jazz.
Sunday
Sunday, January 15, catch The LeNard Rutledge Jazz Ensemble. This Miami-based ensemble is known for their captivating, soul-stirring, earthy and funky jazz.
Named “Best Jazz Artist” by the Miami New Times, Rutledge’s dynamic style is influenced by his church choir work. The warm exchange of give and take between his stage presence and his band will bring out the inner jazz-lover you didn’t know you had.
Later, enjoy live jazz by FIU students from the FIU Art Deco Combo under the direction of Dr. Lisanne Lyons.
Consisting of vocalists and a rhythm section, the group emphasizes close harmonies, improvisation, and addcutting-edge repertoire of jazz and jazz-influenced music, as well as contemporary, latin, and a cappella styles.
Finally, end your weekend of live music with Tango Fusion accompanied by special dance performances during Anibal Berraute’s Milonga Under the Stars.
Led by Berraute, the Argentinean piano player, composer, arranger, and producer is known for his signature fusion of tango with elements of other musical forms.
This includes the “Uruguayan candombe” with its African roots and Argentinean rhythms, traditional country folklore sound, and American jazz, among others, creating a new vibrant harmonic approach to the genre.
