Join us on January 11th at 11 a.m. at the Art Deco Welcome Center to meet Woody Vondracek, the Deco Artist, as he presents a retrospective examining the graphics and posters he produced during the formative years of Miami Beach’s Art Deco preservation effort.
In 1977, as Miami Beach’s Art Deco architecture faced increasing threat, Woody Vondracek— an aircraft mechanic with no formal training in art— emerged as a key visual voice in the early preservation movement. His graphics and poster work, created in close association with the Miami Design Preservation League, became widely recognized for their role in raising public awareness and advancing the campaign that ultimately secured national historic designation for the Art Deco Historic District.
